About Yates House

"Yates House, built in 1870 by Robert Nathaniel Ailsworth, is an historic home in Middlesex County, Virginia. Alvin Nathaniel Yates, whose mother was Ida Mae Ailsworth Yates, daughter of Robert Nathaniel and Mary Ellen Cundiff Ailsworth, purchased the home and he and his wife, Iva Games Yates raised their family here. Although only two families inhabited the home since it was built, many Deltaville natives have ties to this place.

Currently, Yates House is the home of two entities; the Community Arts Center and the Gallery. The Community Arts Center became a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit corporation in May, 2007. The Gallery will remain a for-profit entity to afford the artists an opportunity to sell their work.

The Center's Board of Directors endeavors to maintain the history of the area and provide the community with a meeting place to learn about art and craft and techniques to create works and a place to enjoy outdoor events such as salons, farmers’ markets and concerts. Yates House is a place to browse, have a cool drink on the porch and feel the attitude and atmosphere that’s nurtured this area. Come in, relax, enjoy all that this arts center has to offer and let yourself wander in mind and spirit."
